Air Fryer Honey Soy Chicken Wings

Saucy, sticky, glossy-with-glaze, Honey Soy Chicken Wings. Made easier in the Air Fryer!

Is it just me or do Chicken Wings make you happy?

Chicken Wings say: I’m fun and friendly! I’m approachable and accessible! I make every event feel like a party!

Because if there’s one thing we need right now, it’s an excuse to make happy food. The kind that puts a smile on your face. And makes even the small moments feel special and fun.

Yes, these saucy, sticky, glazy wings are just what our quarantine life needs!

For chicken wing lovers, I always recommend my Korean Fried Chicken recipe. Double fried, drizzled with sticky sauce, and that crispy, crackly coating! It’s a blog favorite for good reason.

But I gotta admit, it’s a bit of a pain to make. All that double frying! I only make Korean Fried Chicken for special events and on request, for the people I love most.

By contrast, Honey Soy Chicken Wings are MUCH easier! A simple marinade. A 12-minute cook time. Plus, the Air Fryer makes Honey Soy Chicken Wings weeknight friendly. And simple enough to double and bring to a potluck (soon, very soon!).

Lacquered with an irresistible, honey-soy-garlic glaze, these wings are glossy, gleaming morsels of perfection. Is there anything better than tiny wings and drumettes coated in sauce? YUM!

What is an Air Fryer?

Air Fryers are basically mini convection ovens. The removable food basket evenly distributes hot air, ensuring a faster cooking time.

Air Fryers are good for cooking crispy foods with minimal oil (donuts, chicken wings, etc.) AND for reheating crispy food items that get too mushy in the microwave (pakoras, green onion pancakes, katsu, etc.). Part of the cooking process is “shaking” the basket to ensure everything gets nice and crispy.

Air Fryers are also great for roasting vegetables and meat in small batches. Cauliflower and broccoli take no time at all! So do breakfast sausage, chicken, burgers, and seafood. The secret is not to overcrowd the food basket.

If you don’t like overly greasy, oily food, you’ll love the Air Fryer. A quick brush of oil on the food basket or spray of oil is all you need. (Do not use oil sprays with silicone, as it can erode the food basket coating!) Healthy food enthusiasts love Air Fryers for that very reason.

True, the Air Fryer is not dishwasher friendly. But it’s not that hard to clean, either. With dry food items, simply wipe down crumbs from the basket and bottom tray. With greasy food items, hand wash and everything comes off fairly easily. I think the key is cleaning the basket consistently so sauce and oil doesn’t build and get stuck on.

Can I make Honey Soy Chicken Wings in a regular oven?

Of course you can! Check out the instructions in the recipe card below. Conventional oven wings will take longer (about 40-45 minutes) but they will be just as delicious. All the other steps remain the same.

How to Make Air Fryer Honey Soy Chicken Wings:

Mix ingredients in a bowl. Marinate chicken for 8 hours or overnight.

Preheat Air Fryer. Add half of the chicken wings in one layer, separated slightly from each other. Roast at 380F for 12 minutes total, flipping wings about halfway through. Repeat with the remaining wings.

Meanwhile, pour marinade ingredients into a small saucepan. Simmer until reduced to a dark, syrupy mass of flavor. Don’t skip this step! Brush onto wings for the most satisfactory, sticky-saucy-glossy glaze! Garnish and serve.
